About Me

California-born and Utah-raised, Kim earned her B.A. in communication/journalism and minor in Latin American studies at Utah Valley University in 2019.

In college, she served as a presidential intern, member of the Multicultural Student Council and as the editor-in-chief of the UVU Review, UVU's independent student newspaper.

In 2016, Kim traveled to Minnesota and reported on protests sparked by the police killing of Philando Castile. This event inspired her to focus on issues pertaining to race, class and social inequity. Kim was named an honorary recipient of the 2018 Utah SPJ Sunshine Award for pushing to keep police records open to the public. She also gained recognition for her business and military reporting while working in Salt Lake City.

Her work has appeared in The Sacramento Bee, McClatchyDC, the Solutions Journalism Network, The GroundTruth ProjectDeseret News and the Daily Herald.

When she’s not working, she enjoys cooking Mexican food in her quaint Sacramento apartment and riding her bike to Philz Coffee.
